Welcome to the Seedbrary! We are so excited that you are interested and curious to see what we have in our current collection! Let's take a minute to describe what we are doing and then you can see what we have in our variety of seeds.

First, we are encouraging all members to learn basic gardening and seed-saving techniques. Gardening has shown to be beneficial to your health — increase in functional movement exercise; helps to reduce stress and may improve your mood; enjoy time in nature; improve your diet by growing your own food; and possibly make new friends who enjoy similar hobbies. You also learn patience, but it is so worth it when you get to enjoy your harvest, see the beautiful flowers you grow or drink a cup of herbal tea — all from your own garden!

Seedbrary operates on the honor system and is a free service. However, we ask that you donate an unopened, non-expired seed pack (or more) of your choosing to add to our collection. This will allow us to continue the program by adding more seeds and therefore extending the service beyond the current season. We are hoping to make this a permanent part of Chapin Memorial Library. Share your favorite flowers, fruits, herbs and vegetables with everyone and see if you find something new for yourself!

RULES:

  • Please take only what you will use.
  • You can take up to 6 packs per day of different varieties of flowers, fruits, herbs and veggies. Please do not take more that 1 pack of each variety. This helps ensure that there are enough seeds to go around!
  • Please complete a Participant Form if you take or donate seeds.
  • Please write down your selected seed choices on the Seeds Taken-Donation slips at the Seedbrary cabinet. This helps us know what is being used the most and what stock to replenish.
  • You do not need to "return" your seeds. Take them, use them and don't worry about saving seeds from the plant at the end of the season unless you would like to have seeds for yourself next year!

SEED DONATIONS:

Please bring any seed donations to the Information Services desk on the second floor. We will process them before placing them into the seed library.

DONATION GUIDELINES:

  • Organic, non-GMO seeds are preferred, but we will take other types.
  • We accept donations of flower, fruit, herbs, or vegetable seeds in unopened, non-expired packs.

Please fill out the Participant Form if you take or supply seeds.

CURRENT COLLECTION:

Now, let's see what we have in our current collection. We are always adding and subtracting the seeds that people have chosen to the list. While we try to have some of everything on the list, please realize that some of the more popular items may be in short-supply or may not be available when you come to get your seeds. Let us know if there is something that you are looking for if you are unable to locate the seeds in the cabinet. We may have them in our overstock seeds or we may have already exhausted our supply of the particular variety.
